All praise and thanks are due to Allāh (SWT), who blessed us with the Glorious Qur’ān. Abundant salutations be upon our beloved teacher and role model, the first haafidh, Nabi Muhammad (SAW).

Du’a No. 7

This du’a was passed on to me one of Cape Town’s haafidhaat who I love and look up to, Haafidha Wardah Mohamed. She said that people have given positive feedback after making this du’a, so try to incorporate it into your daily du’as in-sha-Allah.

Dua No. 8

Dr. Haifaa reccomends this du’a for relief of depression, and it was originally given to me by Haafidha Radia Bawa Hendricks, my former principal and role model. I often made this du’a while I was learning.

O Allah, I am Your slave and the son/daughter of Your male slave and the son/daughter of your female slave . My forehead is in Your Hand (i.e. you have control over me) . Your Judgment upon me is assured and Your Decree concerning me is just . I ask You by every Name that You have named Yourself with , revealed in Your Book , taught any one of Your creation or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You , to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness and the reliever of my distress.

Allaahumma ‘innee ‘abduka, ibnu ‘abdika, ibnu ‘amatika, naasiyatee biyadika, maadhin fiyya hukmuka, ‘adlun fiyya qadhaa’uka, ‘as’aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, ‘aw ‘anzaltahu fee kitaabika, ‘aw ‘allamtahu ‘ahadan min khalqika, ‘awista’tharta bihi fee ‘ilmil-ghaybi ‘indaka, ‘an taj’alal-Qur’aana rabee’a qalbee, wa noora sadree, wa jalaa’a huznee, wa thahaaba hammee .

Dua No. 9

Cape Town’s beloved Sheikh Ebrahim Gabriels advised my tamat (hifdh graduate) class with this prophetic du’a shortly before our tamat:

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The supplication of my brother Dhun Nun (Yunus, peace be upon him), who called on Allah while in the whale’s belly: ‘There is no deity but You. Glory be to You! Verily, I have been among the wrongdoers’ (Quran 21:87) – no Muslim person says it, for any situation whatsoever, except that Allah Most High answers his call.” [Tirmidhi]

La ilaha illa Anta, Subhanaka, inni kuntu mina dh-dhalimin.

لا إلهَ إلا أنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظّالِمِيْنَ

Du’a No. 10

One of my tamat teachers, Haafidha Tasneem Dodgen advised me with this thikr. Abu Huraira RA narrates that the prophet SAW) said, “Whoever reads la howla wala quwwata illa billaahil aliyyil adheem, it is a cure for 99 diseases and the most minor disease is depression.” (Bukhari).
